Both Julia and Dave have ridden since childhood.

Dave comes from a well known Southland horsey family and went to Pony Club until cars and motorbikes became more attractive. These days Dave rides for pleasure and his current horse is Ben, a very large Thoroughbred/ Clydesdale cross. Ben, although 17hh, is extremely quiet. We use Ben to help clients regain lost confidence. He seems to know instinctively how to help their healing process.

Julia’s family was not horsey at all and it wasn’t until the family emigrated from England to NZ that she was able to finally get a pony. Pony Club was out of the question as her first pony was a stallion. Various ponies and horses followed, all with some problem or quirk, and they all taught her valuable lessons in horsemanship.

Being on the small side and often having to ride alone has developed Julia’s skill in developing a partnership with her horses without resorting to harsh methods. By combining horsemanship with energy healing Julia can transform the stressful relationship you have with your horse into a beautiful partnership.

Julia is constantly learning and regularly attends clinics and receives lessons herself.

She regularly judges at local Pony Club events and ribbon days. Both Dave and Julia attend International horse shows and competitions each year whilst in the UK to keep up with new products and to watch some of the best riders in the world.
Her current competition horse is Maxi (Max Factor), a gorgeous Clydesdale/Arab cross. Maxi had nervousness issues when he came to us but has blossomed into a well mannered horse.

Our other horses are:

Blondie (Blonde Arrow) who excelled in everything from western to dressage to eventing to showing. Now retired she still keeps the other horses on their toes.

Storm (Mahogany Blonde) is Blondie’s daughter by the Swedish Warmblood stallion Maestro. She was started by Stuart Moore at Millers Flat and went mustering before coming home to be Julia’s next competition horse. A serious illness has meant Storm has been out of action for a year but she now seems fully recovered so will be brought on slowly over the coming year.

We are very lucky to have Maree McLennan grazing her horses at Flying Horse. Maree looks after our horses when we are away and is a well respected horsewoman whose horses are always beautifully mannered.

Maree is very experienced with young newly broken horses and her input and advice is always gratefully received.
